Experience the incredible night skies at Lake City Star Fest from June 7-8, 2024, a weekend of celestial excitement tailored for all astronomy enthusiasts. Whether you are a casual observer of the stars or an experienced astronomer, this free event has something for everyone. Enjoy cosmic activities, including stargazing, telescope exploration, educational opportunities, networking opportunities, and more. Come and join us for an unforgettable experience under the stars!

Friday, June 7th
6:00 pm: Star Fest Welcome and Astronomers Gathering at Lake City Brewing Company
Hang out with other Star Fest attendees and fellow astronomy enthusiasts. Attendees will be responsible for food and beverage purchased at LCBC.
8:15 pm: “Lights Out Lake City” - Stargazing in Town Park
Join us in downtown Lake City for a tour of the stars. Please dress warmly and bring a chair. If you have a telescope to share, feel free to bring and set it up. Most importantly, bring your curiosity and enthusiasm as we explore the universe together!
10:00 pm: (Canceled) Astrophotography Lessons in Town Park
Unfortunately, our class leaders are unable to hold this class. Following stargazing, learn how to photograph the night sky with Jake Briggs and Amber Boutwell. Bring your own camera.
Saturday, June 8th
8:30-10:00 am: Networking at the Lake Fork Earth & Sky Center Yurt
Round Robin for Dark Sky Advocates and Professionals with coffee and pastries
10:00 am: Kid’s Activity in Town Park
Take part in a fun activity for kids at the Town Park Pavilion next to the Library
11:00-12:00 pm: Solar Telescope at the Lake City Library Yard
View the sun through a solar telescope!
2:00-4:00 pm: Destiny in Space at the Mountaineer Theatre + Special Presentation
Take in a showing of Destiny in Space at Lake City’s famous Mountaineer Theatre. Following the film, journey through the wonders of the universe during a special presentation by Kyle Doane. Concessions available for purchase.
4:30-6:30 pm: Dark Sky Art at Lake City Arts
Learn how to paint a Starry Starry Night scene with a Lake City twist! Get tickets and learn more.
8:00 pm: Star Party and Stargazing at Observatory Site
Join us at the future observatory site for a tour of the stars from Bryan Cashion and an update from Dark Sky Colorado. Please dress warmly and bring a chair. If you have a telescope to share, feel free to bring and set it up. Most importantly, bring your curiosity and enthusiasm as we explore the universe together! The Chamber of Commerce will be providing cookies and hot cocoa.
Sunday, June 9th
10:00 am: Birding at Pete’s Lake
Judy Boyce will guide you through a birding expedition at Pete’s Lake
1:30 pm: Interstellar at the Mountaineer Theatre
Take in a complimentary showing of one of the best movies of all time for the 10th anniversary of the release of this fantastic sci-fi film. No ticket required.
